Lindsaye & Mike’s “Alice in Wonderland” Engagement Session

Back in December 2012 Mike asked me to be a ninja…a photo ninja.  He was going to propose to Lindsaye on the Milford Green in the gazebo and wanted me to capture the moment as it unfolded, all the while remaining undetected.  Anyone who knows me personally will tell you that I kind of stand out in a crowd so naturally I was slightly concerned I would be spotted.  When the night came, it happened to be the best possible scenario.  There was a bride and groom that had just gotten married near the gazebo and they were getting their photos taken by a photographer.  Perfect opportunity for me to blend in!  Long story short, Lindsaye said YES! and was completely surprised by the ninja photos.  I will always remember that night as one of the most touching moments I have ever photographed, and now I will remember their engagement shoot as one of the coolest shoots I have ever done.

Lindsaye and Mike came to me with the idea of doing a themed Engagement Shoot.  My first reaction was “THAT’S COOL!”
Then they told me they wanted to do it in the theme of “Alice in Wonderland”.  Then my reaction was “THAT’S REALLY COOL!” and I knew exactly where I wanted to do it.  We decided on Elizabeth Park in Hartford, CT.  It is a well manicured park with gorgeous landscaping.  Perfect for Wonderland type imagery.

What made this shoot so special wasn’t the props, the theme, or the scenery.  It was the subjects, Mike and Lindsaye.  They are amazing individuals and an even better couple.  I wish them a lifetime of happiness and love.  I cannot wait to shoot their wedding this December!  Did I mention they were getting married in a Carousel Museum?!

I can’t take all the credit for myself.  My amazing fiance Colette helped me design and plan out the props for the shoot.  It definitely helps to have someone as creative as she is so close and at my disposal ;).

For the photo nerds out there, most of these photos were taken on a Canon 5D Mark II with a 85mm 1.4 lens.  The first two photographs are stitched panoramic photos at wide apertures, also known as the Brenizer Effect.  🙂
